This is a sample itinerary, which may vary according to water levels and game movements.

KUJWANA CAMP - You are met at Maun Airport by Mary or KK (our Maun office team) before a 25 minute transfer by helicopter straight into camp, or by light aircraft to Pompom airstrip, which is then roughly an hour’s journey to the camp either by vehicle or boat. Once you arrive in camp you will be given time to settle in before lunch and an introduction talk with demonstration on tack and advice on game viewing from horseback. This is followed by an orientation ride for approximately 1 - 2 hours.

KUJWANA CAMP - Wake up every morning is an hour before dawn to ensure best game viewing. After breakfast a morning ride awaits you in the Xudum area, wading through lush green malapos that lead you from island to island, surprising a timid reedbuck out of his dense cover on a heavily wooded island, or enjoy the herds of lechwe and zebra moving through the open spaces. Return to camp for lunch followed by a siesta. In the afternoon enjoy a game drive with sunset drinks followed by a short night drive with a spotlight, returning to camp for a three course candlelit meal.

MOKOLOWANE CAMP - Today you will ride from Kujwana to Mokolowane camp. This is approximately a 30km ride heading northwest. The route moves through open floodplains and scattered islands towards the Matsebe river system, where you will see a wide variety of game. A picnic lunch is served on a shady island followed by a siesta in camp beds, maybe a swim, and then a further 2 hours ride to Mokolowane camp. Arrive at sunset and enjoy a refreshing drink as you admire the stunning views over the floodplain. The open skylines of Mokolowane camp make for great star gazing.

MOKOLOWANE - Begin the day with a relaxed morning game drive. This camp is on the Matsebe river system and features wide open flood plains interspersed with Mokolowane palms, favorite food of elephant and baboon. It is also a good area for plains’ game. Alternatively take a peaceful mokoro trip up the river and enjoy the tranquility of the delta from the dug out canoes.

In the afternoon head out for a 2-3 hour ride and enjoy the beautiful colours of the Delta as the sun starts to set in the horizon.

KUJWANA CAMP - Today you will embark on a full day’s ride from Mokolowane to Kujwana Camp with a picnic lunch along the way. The ride is approximately 35km, with 4 hours ridden in the morning and two hours in the afternoon. This ride moves through a variety of game areas fording the Xudum River at numerous hippo channels. Enjoy a picnic lunch en-route, arriving at Kujwana at sunset.

KUJWANA CAMP - Today there is a scheduled rest day to let weary legs recover. There is the option to take a game drive, guided walk, mokoro excursion or view a waterhole from the hide. Or if you prefer, simply relax by the pool, watching the lechwe across the river, and the elephants as they slowly wander by.

KUJWANA CAMP - Embark on a full morning ride exploring the western Baobab area. Small islands linked by numerous hippo channels eventually lead you onto Boabab Island. A good habitat for Cheetah and breeding grounds for Carmine Bee eaters, our summer visitors. Boabab Island has thick riverine forest and is a good area for general game viewing (and the unexpected).

FLY CAMP - Enjoy a morning ride East towards Beacon and Lion Island. These are two very large islands in the area which are cut off from Kujwana by the Qwaapu River. The area is criss-crossed with game paths leading you through a chain of rain pans, this is a great contrast to the open flood plains. Mopane forests and acacia woodlands offer a good variety of food for elephant, kudu and giraffe. Breeding herds of elephant enjoy the security of the dense forest and should the pans be holding water, zebra, wildebeest and buffalo will also be found. Surrounded by animal tracks, you will be able to tell what has been and gone - and what you might still find. Enjoy an afternoon bird walk, with the opportunity to learn more about the traditional uses of the plants and trees of the area and end the day in a fly camp. The fly camp is a mobile camp, set up under the stars and promises a night in a true wilderness. You will arrive at the fly camp as the sun sets for a three course bush dinner, before spending the night with nothing but a mosquito net between you and the stars, drifting off to the sounds of the bush around you.

FLY CAMP - Begin your day with the sun rising and enjoy a game drive back to Kujwana. After a hearty lunch there will be a 2 hour evening ride followed by sunset drinks on one of the flood plains, a lovely way to end an active day.

DAY 10

KUJWANA CAMP - For your final day you will head out on a morning ride to the pans. A hot spot for game, you can hope to find elephant, giraffe and large herds of zebra. Arrive back in time for lunch and an afternoon powerboat trip on the river to look for the elusive Pels fishing owl or throw in a line and catch a delicious bream for dinner.

DAY 11

Enjoy an early morning game ride out of Kujwana camp (if flight times permit) and depart after breakfaston an hour’s game drive to the nearest airstrip for transfer by light aircraft into Maun or a 20 minute helicopter ride.
