Chitabe is located in the Chitabe Concession, which covers 22 000 hectares of pristine Okavango Delta wilderness. This unique area harbours a massive variety of habitats within close proximity giving rise to a surprising diversity of species. The mix of Okavango and Kalahari makes for an excellent home to an abundant array of herbivores: giraffe, buffalo, red lechwe, tsessebe, impala and elephant, which in turn support the larger predators: lion, leopard, spotted hyaena, cheetah and wild dog.
The Chitabe Concession’s total bird population is estimated at 345 species, comprising both resident and migratory birds, and varying throughout the year, depending on water levels and season. Raptors are abundant here and include African hawk eagle and hooded vulture, which often nests on the island or seen following packs of African wild dog in search of any scraps after a kill.
• The 28,000 hectare (69,000 acre) Chitabe Concession, situated in the south-east of the Okavango Delta, is separated from the well-known Moremi Game Reserve by the Gomoti Channel. The diversity and mix of Okavango and Kalahari habitats makes Chitabe unique and allows good concentrations of all the larger predators as well as herbivores. Chitabe is reliable for year round game and birding experiences
